Ayurveda is a comprehensive therapeutic method from India that balances the body's three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ayurveda uses a combination of nutrition, herbal medicines, and lifestyle habits to preserve health and avoid disease by balancing one's natural constitution with external circumstances.

Acupuncture, herbal medication, and Tai Chi are some of the tools used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to help people get well and find balance. The ideas of Qi, or vital energy, and the harmony of Yin and Yang are fundamental to TCM. Through a balanced interaction of energy forces, this holistic approach aims to preserve general well-being and address a variety of health conditions. It emphasizes harmony between the body, mind, and environment.

Indigenous healing techniques include the customs, ceremonies, and spiritual counseling used by Indigenous peoples throughout the world. These traditions, which have their roots in a close relationship with the natural world and the community, seek to treat health from an all-encompassing perspective by using culturally appropriate methods and viewpoints to heal the body, mind, and spirit.

Unani medicine, with roots in Greco-Arabic tradition, emphasizes balance in the body’s four humors: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. This system uses herbal treatments, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications to promote health and treat diseases, drawing on ancient texts and practices.

African Traditional Medicine involves a variety of healing practices native to the African continent, including herbal treatments, rituals, and spiritual healing. It integrates community, spirituality, and natural resources to address physical, emotional, and spiritual health issues.

Herbal medicine uses plant-based substances for therapeutic purposes. It encompasses a range of practices from traditional folk remedies to modern phytotherapy. Herbs are used to prevent and treat diseases, and their efficacy is often supported by historical use and scientific research.

Phytotherapy, or plant therapy, involves using medicinal plants and extracts to treat and prevent illnesses. It focuses on the therapeutic properties of plants, including their active compounds, to address health conditions and support overall well-being, often complementing conventional treatments.

Integrative Medicine combines conventional medical treatments with complementary therapies such as acupuncture, yoga, and herbal medicine. This approach aims to address the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—by integrating the strengths of both traditional and modern medical practices.

Acupuncture and acupressure are techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine that involve stimulating specific points on the body to balance Qi (vital energy) and promote healing. Acupuncture uses needles, while acupressure applies physical pressure, both aiming to alleviate pain and improve health.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine based on the principle of "like cures like." It uses highly diluted substances to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. Homeopathic remedies are chosen based on the individual's specific symptoms and overall health status.

Traditional nutrition refers to dietary practices rooted in cultural and historical contexts. These practices emphasize whole, natural foods and often incorporate unique preparation methods and food combinations that align with traditional beliefs about health and wellness.

Mind-body medicine explores the interactions between mental and physical health. Techniques such as meditation, guided imagery, and biofeedback are used to manage stress, improve emotional well-being, and enhance overall health by harnessing the mind's power to influence bodily functions.

Ethnobotany studies the relationship between people and plants, focusing on how different cultures use plants for medicinal, nutritional, and ceremonial purposes. This field helps preserve traditional knowledge and contributes to the discovery of new therapeutic agents.

Aromatherapy involves using essential oils from plants for therapeutic purposes. These oils are believed to enhance physical and emotional well-being through their aromatic properties, often used in massage, baths, or diffusers to promote relaxation and healing.

Traditional medicine in public health incorporates time-honored practices into broader health strategies. This approach recognizes the value of traditional therapies in managing health and disease, particularly in areas where conventional healthcare is limited or inaccessible.

Regulation and policy in traditional medicine ensure that practices and products are safe, effective, and ethical. This includes setting standards for herbal supplements, licensing practitioners, and integrating traditional practices into mainstream healthcare frameworks.

Traditional medicine approaches to aging focus on maintaining health and vitality in older adults. Practices may include dietary recommendations, herbal remedies, and lifestyle adjustments aimed at improving quality of life and managing age-related conditions.

Chronic disease management in traditional medicine involves using holistic approaches to support long-term health. This includes dietary changes, herbal treatments, and lifestyle modifications aimed at managing symptoms and improving the quality of life for chronic conditions.

Traditional medicine addresses mental health through practices such as herbal remedies, meditation, and community support. These approaches often emphasize holistic care, integrating emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects to promote mental well-being and resilience.

Herbal pain management involves using plants and plant extracts to alleviate pain. Herbs like turmeric, ginger, and willow bark have been traditionally used for their analgesic properties, offering natural alternatives or complements to conventional pain relief methods.

Traditional pediatrics focuses on child health using time-honored practices. This includes dietary guidelines, herbal remedies, and preventive measures designed to support children's growth, development, and overall well-being according to traditional health systems.

Spiritual healing involves practices aimed at restoring balance and harmony through spiritual means. Techniques may include prayer, meditation, energy work, and rituals, focusing on addressing emotional and spiritual issues that impact overall health and well-being.

Environmental sustainability in traditional medicine emphasizes using natural resources responsibly and preserving ecosystems. Practices such as sustainable harvesting of medicinal plants and ecological balance are integral to maintaining both health and environmental integrity.

Globalization impacts traditional medicine by increasing access and exposure to diverse healing practices worldwide. This interaction can lead to greater integration and appreciation of traditional methods but also raises challenges related to cultural appropriation and commercialization.
